Better Data By Design: Professor David Broadhurst, The West Australian - ECU Lecture Series
Professor David Broadhurst explains biostatistics and why it is key to the future success of precision medicine in this lecture titled Better Data by Design: The Wonderful Yet Frightening World of Biomarker Discovery in the Post-Genomic Era.
This lecture was delivered as part of The West Australian - ECU Lecture Series, in May 2016.
Professor Broadhurst is one of ECU’s newest Professorial Research Fellows. He explores why scientists have struggled to translate the sequencing of the human genome in 2003 into the medical breakthroughs that were expected. He examines how high-throughput genomic and post-genomic technology has shifted the research bottleneck from the collection of biological data, to managing and understanding the immense deluge of data produced, where biostatistics and experimental design will be key to the future success of precision medicine.
The West Australian ECU Lecture Series provides a forum for one of our highly-qualified professors to discuss a pressing issue facing our community. In one busy hour, speakers will outline their research to date and engage in a lively Q&A style discussion with the audience. To see more about the The West Australian ECU Lecture Series:
