Professor A. Michael Spence is the 2001 Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences and Professor Emeritus of Management at Stanford University. He is also Professor of Economics at the Stern School of Business, New York University and the former Chair of the Independent Commission on Growth and Development. Prof. Spence's has received international recognition for his contribution to original economic thought and knowledge, particularly his analysis of asymmetric markets (which one him the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences). In this interview for United Nations University Conversation Series on Global Justice, Prof. Spence looks at the pressing challenges facing international development and economics.
