Prof. Gino Schallenbergh, Near Eastern Studies, KU Leuven Recording date: 9. October - 11. November 2012 The Arab revolution that swept through the Middle East since January 2011 has changed the political landscape dramatically. No one expected that the events would take such a spectacular turn. The revolution created a new political awareness, especially among the disillusioned younger generations. Old authoritarian regimes with at its head dictators that ruled for decades fell one after the other. The course of events and the outcome of the revolutions in the different Arab states show similarities and differences. In this series of lectures devoted to the Arab revolution the causes and outcome of the revolutions will be addressed.
