William “Bootsy” Collins got his big break when James Brown plucked him for the original line-up of his groundbreaking early 70s backing band, The J.B.’s. But it wasn’t long before the charismatic Bootzilla – armed with his “space bass”, elastic vocals, and mischievous wordplay – would become a funk icon in his own right. Watch him tell his story to Andrew Noz during the 2011 Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid.
